Nyack College on Fire
“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit.” 1 Thessalonians 5:19
On this day, May 26, in the year of our Lord 1907, Assemblies of God leader Stanley Frodsham was the baccalaureate speaker for the Nyack College students. Many students, faculty and administrators had fasted and prayed for weeks prior. Many had spent the night in prayer coming in to the baccalaureate. As the service started, there was a “quiet sobbing going on in several hearts as we bowed in prayer…we all felt like going through with God, cost what it may. Then a student got up sobbing under the power of the Spirit of God, telling how powerless he felt, how the burden of souls was on him, how clean he felt, but oh, so powerless. We must have power to go out and win souls for Christ, we must have the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This was the cry of numbers there, and as he ended, the spirit of weeping fell on us and we fell on our faces pleading with God to baptize us.” One of the ministers on the platform began speaking loudly in an unknown language. The power of God fell on the meeting. “Grieve not the Holy Spirit; quench not the Holy Spirit; resist not the Holy Spirit,” the preacher declared. Before the baccalaureate was over, there was confession of sin, extraordinary prayer, healing, and a deep sense of consecration.
Loving Father, I throw open the door to welcome Your Holy Spirit activity in my life, in Jesus’ Name.
