Stamp Eternity On My Eyeballs
Stamp Eternity On My Eyeballs
"He has put eternity into man’s heart…" Ecclesiastes 3:11
On this day, May 30, in the year of our Lord 1735, Jonathan Edwards published his book on the manifest presence of Christ at work in North Hampton, Massachusetts, entitled A Faithful Narrative of the Surprising Work of God. In it he wrote, “I know of not one young person who has returned to former ways of looseness and extravagance in any respect, but we still remain a reformed people and God has evidently made us a new people. For here in this corner of the world God dwells and manifests His glory. It was then a frequent thing for many to be so extraordinarily seized with terror in hearing the Word, by the Spirit of God convincing them of sin, that they fell down and were carried out of the church, and they afterwards proved more solid and lively Christians.”
There is no question that Jonathan Edwards lived with a heightened sense of awareness of the manifest presence of God. He would frequently pray, “Lord, stamp eternity on my eyeballs.”
Has God stamped eternity on your eyeballs so that you can see His manifest presence today?
Lord Jesus, today stamp eternity on my eyeballs, that I may see Your manifest presence.
