“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Receiving is the key to the kingdom.
There are many great receive-promises in the Bible, but none greater than this one. Jesus promises you life-transforming power in the Holy Spirit, and he wants to give you life-transforming power in the Holy Spirit.
Jesus wants to teach you to receive. The prayer, Lord teach us to pray, should be followed by, Lord teach us to receive. Praying without receiving is like chewing without shallowing.
In many ways, receiving starts with receiving the Holy Spirit. Once you receive the Holy Spirit, it is the Holy Spirit who gives you all things.
Heavenly Father, I hold out my empty hands to you now. I cling to nothing but this promise of Acts 1:8. Right now by faith in this word of Christ, I receive power in the Holy Spirit to be your witness in my own neighborhood, throughout my region, cross-culturally to people who are different than me, and to the nations of the earth.
