Receive a Gift
Receive a Gift
By Jon Mitchell
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." James 1:17
Every emotionally healthy person likes to receive a good gift. Every spiritually healthy Christ-follower loves to receive also. It's only when we're UNhealthy—consumed by guilt, pride, or unbelief—that we resist what God wants us to freely receive.
Jesus said in Matthew 10:8 “…freely have you received, freely give.” In many ways our entire journey with God is found in this verse. We were utterly dead in trespasses and sins and completely unable to respond to the manifest presence of God without having freely received the prevenient work of God’s grace to awaken us to His presence. We have nothing spiritually that we didn’t first receive. Spiritually speaking, everything we have is based on receiving. Receiving is one of the ultimate kingdom principles.
To receive freely really means to receive even though it’s undeserved. There is nothing we do to earn anything in the kingdom. It all comes by grace. So,
Do we live to receive?
Do we pray to receive—to receive power, to receive God’s presence, to receive his promises, and so much more?
Don’t ever get prideful with what you receive. It’s all by grace and we deserve nothing and have nothing except what He reveals to us and gives to us.
Pray now: Father, I want to be spiritually healthy and learn to receive from you. I throw off every ounce of flesh that says I can earn my way to you, or that I deserve something from you. I deserve nothing, but I desire everything that you have for me. So, my hands are open to receive from you; to receive a greater revelation and understanding of you and your will for me.
Pray for Breakthrough in the Nations!
Each day during this fast we are asking you to join us in asking for the remaining nations where the College of Prayer is not yet serving churches.
Pray today for Greenland.
“Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.” Psalm 2:8
