A Life of Receiving
A Life of Receiving
By Rebecca Holcomb
“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.” John 5:39-40
Jesus was constantly inviting His disciples to come away with Him, to learn from Him, and to receive from Him. In this verse, He is telling the religious leaders to come to Him and experience life. Life abundant and life eternal is characterized by a life of receiving from Jesus. Every Scripture is an invitation for an encounter with Jesus where we can empty our lives of fear, doubt, shame, and unbelief and receive something in exchange from Jesus. Trade your anxiety for his peace. Exchange your fear for his perfect love. Give him your doubts and receive his words of affirmation and fatherhood. Trade your burdens for his yolk that is easy. Receive his rest in place of your striving. Receive relationship in exchange for religion.
You have nothing to give the world except Jesus Christ himself, so receive all that he is. Receive a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit each day. Receive the Knowledge that you have all you need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3), and every spiritual blessing in heavenly places (Eph 1:3) is already yours. Receive the revelation and the reality. Ask and receive—you have not because you ask not (James 4:2).
Pray now: Jesus, I come to you realizing that I need more than I have received. You have made available all that I need, but I have so often relied on my own knowledge, strength, and energy. I repent and receive your forgiveness. I ask for a greater measure and revelation of your Holy Spirit and your provision for me. I receive now all that you have for me in Jesus Christ.

“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands...an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off." Isaiah 55:12-13
