Isaiah 61
Isaiah 61
By Rebecca Holcomb
“I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness.” Isaiah 61:10a
The entire chapter of Isaiah 61 is a chapter about receiving. It was originally written for the Israelites, but it shows us God’s character for taking our human weakness and giving us Kingdom freedom, joy, blessings, identity, and purpose. We can receive his anointing to bring good news to the poor and comfort to the brokenhearted. We can receive authority to proclaim release to captives and free those imprisoned. We can receive the Lord’s favor. For our ashes, we can receive a crown of beauty, and for our mourning, a joyous blessing. We receive festive praise instead of despair.
From God, we receive our identity, oaks of righteousness planted for the glory of God. We also receive the identity of Priests of the Lord, ministers of our God (vv. 3,6).
We are to receive from God our purpose, as in verse 4, to rebuild the ancient ruins, repairing and reviving Kingdom reality on earth as in heaven.
We receive God’s provision, even a double portion of what we have lost to the enemy. Everlasting joy will be ours if we receive from God all that he has for his children. With Jesus Christ our King, we can receive all blessings, gifts, identity, purpose, and provision. That is why He tells us to seek first God’s Kingdom, and then all these things will be added unto us (Matt. 6:33).
Pray now: Jesus, I bring you my grief, my fears, my lostness, and my wandering. Who do you say that I am? What is my identity and purpose in you? You say no one can receive anything unless God gives it from Heaven (John 3:27). Today, I receive your Word over my life. I receive my healing, my identity, my purpose, and my provision from you, of King of Heaven.

“Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle!” Psalm 24:7-8
