All Glory

All Glory
By Bill Hyer

One of the greatest doxologies in the Bible is Paul’s concluding declaration in Romans 11:36, “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” Ultimately, everything we have, we have received “from him.” Because of this, all glory is to be given “to him.”

Paul, in a subtle and kind way, rebuked the “arrogant” Christians in the church in Corinth who were causing a division in the church because they thought they were, in certain ways, superior to other Christians. He said, “For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?” (1 Corinthians 4:7). He told them that everything they have is something they freely “received.” Because of this, they cannot “boast” or be proud about it, but must give all the glory to God.

One of the most powerful illustrations of this is seen in what the Book of Revelation tells us about “24 elders.” They are members of the divine counsel of God who are enthroned around the throne of God in heaven. Because of this, they are among the most powerful beings in the universe. Revelation 4:4 says, “Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads.” Then Revelation 4:10-11 goes on to say that when the worship of God breaks out in heaven “the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, ‘Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.’” Truly, they know that everything they possess they have freely received “from Him.” Because of this, they give all the glory “to Him,” saying, “You are worthy for all things come from you.”

Pray now: Father, all glory is to you. You receive all the glory because you deserve all the glory! I have nothing that I did not receive from you, and everything I have received is to ultimately give you glory!
