Receiving the Unshakable
Receiving the Unshakable
By Fred Hartley, IV
“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe.” Hebrews 12:28
We have just come out of a season of giving and receiving. I’m hopeful that you received something that you will enjoy.
There are not many gifts that we will ever receive that could be considered unshakable. Most of the gifts that we received at Christmas are unfortunately shakable, and many of them even breakable. They are not eternal and certainly will not be enjoyed in heaven. I read a bumper sticker once, “He who dies with the most toys still dies.” We will not be taking our stuff with us.
There are many things in this world that have been created that are considered shakable. Shakable things refer to anything in this earthly life that are temporary, uncertain, or dependent on external circumstances, such as material possessions, worldly status, personal relationships, and even our health. Each of these things will no longer exist when we arrive in heaven.
However, the moment that people put their faith in Jesus, they receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken. This is what the writer of Hebrews is communicating in this verse. Heaven, and the new covenant, are part of the eternal plan of God that will never be undone. Unlike the fallen sinful world, and the temporary old covenant, heaven, and the new covenant, are those things which cannot be shaken, and so they will remain, forever. Hallelujah!
As we wrap up this moment in the presence of God, take note of all that you have because of this unshakeable kingdom you have received. Salvation, forgiveness, healing, and deliverance, to name a few. Now, as the Hebrew writer says, in light of this unshakable kingdom we have received, let us offer our praises to God.
Pray now: Conclude this time in exaltation of Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, and for his unshakable Kingdom.
Pray for Breakthrough in the Nations!
Each day during this fast we are asking you to join us in asking for the remaining nations where the College of Prayer is not yet serving churches.
Pray today for Marshall Islands.
“Behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb... crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’" Revelation 7:9-10
