Pray Through for Breakthrough
Day 1
Pray Through for Breakthrough
Jon Mitchell
Can we be honest for a moment? We generally like life to be easy. It’s why we have microwaves, fast food restaurants, and spell check. If we are given a choice between learning something new or sticking with what’s familiar, we will generally choose the familiar. But there are certain breakthroughs in the kingdom of God that require us to get uncomfortable and take new steps of faith.
A 21 day fast is not the easiest spiritual discipline to participate in, but it can be one of the most powerful spiritual breakthroughs you experience. When you want breakthrough, it’s time to pray through! A fast is the fastest way to transition us from being about our business to being about our Father’s business. It’s the fastest way to revive us—spirit, soul, and body. Jesus experienced a radical shift when he went on a 40 day fast. He went from what had been familiar and comfortable to him in Nazareth to traveling extensively with no place to rest his head (Mt. 8:20) as he carried out the will of the Father. Towards the end of his fast he faced down satan himself and overcame every temptation thrown at him (Mt. 4:1-11). His body might have been weaker, but his spirit had never been stronger.
And so it can be for us over these 21 days. Anticipate a spiritual breakthrough. Be desperate for revival in your life now. Expect temptations to come, but welcome the strengthening of your spirit.
“'Even now,' declares the LORD, 'return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.' Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave behind a blessing—grain offerings and drink offerings for the LORD your God. Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly." Joel 2:12-15
