Personal Revival
Personal Revival
Luis Calderon
I firmly believe that the Lord longs to give us revival on a personal, family, and city level. Therefore, I have selected three different passages from the Bible to illustrate it over the next 3 days.
Personal Revival: Let's start by defining what revival is. Secularly speaking, it is an increase in the intensity, strength, or liveliness of something. However, when we talk about a spiritual revival, it refers to a spiritual awakening that occurs in people or in a certain place. I think that a good example of someone who had a tremendous personal revival was the Apostle Peter. In the Garden of Gethsemane he could not pray for one hour. He fell asleep; he tried to solve the arrest of Jesus with a sword; he fled the scene and ended up denying Jesus three times.
How did Peter receive a personal revival that he so desperately needed? I would like to suggest three basic things that Peter did, and that we can also do, to have personal revival. First, there had to be deep repentance in Jesus’ Presence. In John 21:15-23 we are told that there was a conversation between Jesus and Peter, who, after having denied Christ three times, is confronted three times with the same question: “Peter, do you love me?”
Then, Peter is given a command and a promise for which complete obedience would be required. In Acts 1:4-5 the disciples were told not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father which was the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Peter radically obeys. He does not return to his family or to his former profession, but instead goes to the upper room to pray for 10 days until he receives the promise of the Father (Acts 1:13-14).
Finally, Peter receives the filling of the Holy Spirit and is completely revived, and his life would not be the same from that moment on (Acts 2:4; 4:8).
As we meditate on this topic today, we should ask ourselves, what should I repent of in Christ’s presence? What is God asking of me that I must completely obey? And, of course, we should ask the Lord to fill us with His Holy Spirit.
