City Revival
City Revival
Jonah 1-4
I recommend that you read the entire book of Jonah before reading this devotional, and don't be scared, there are only 48 verses! It will help you understand how we can have a revival in our city.
There are three things that helped the great city of Nineveh experience a wonderful revival and enjoy the mercy of the Lord.
1. Deep Repentance (chapters 2:1-10 and 3:6-10: Interestingly, we see this principle of the Kingdom of God in many passages of the Bible. The Book of Jonah, in particular, we see repentance not only in the lives of the inhabitants of Nineveh (3:5-10), but also in the life of the Prophet Jonah.
2. Accompanied by Prayer and Fasting (see 3:5-8): One of the things that can help us accompany our attitude of deep repentance is prayer and fasting. The king of Nineveh not only decreed fasting for its inhabitants, but also for its animals!
3. And turn every man from his evil way (see 3:1-3; 8b): In this same chapter we can see the change in the evil path of Jonah and this entire city, which brought them, as a reward, the ability to enjoy the mercy of God. This also reminds me of another biblical passage, well known to all of us, where we can see exactly these three principles: 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and they turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Lord, pour out on our city a spirit of deep repentance, leading us to pray and fast for our city. Give us the power to abandon our sins and to live in holiness. We receive your forgiveness and pray for the healing of our city. In the precious name of your Son, Jesus Christ.
