Christ’s Reviving Presence in Our Homes
Christ’s Reviving Presence in Our Homes
“And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household.” 2 Samuel 6:9-11
In this passage, David is moving the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. This is no easy task. The ark was literally the presence of God. Inside was kept the 10 Commandments, Aaron’s rod, and a bowl of mana. This was God’s holy presence and no one had better treat it as common. If you read the beginning of this chapter, you will see that Uzzah collapsed because he treated what was holy as common.
What happens after this is INCREDIBLE! David does not want to proceed with the ark to Jerusalem, and instead decides to find a temporary place for it to stay. A man named Obed-Edom steps up and volunteers to keep the ark in his home. This is incredible. Now, we don’t have much information other than this: He kept the ark for 3 months. God blessed him and his entire household.
There are a couple of things I want to point out: First, we see that Obed-Edom welcomed the presence of God. He could have come up with all kinds of excuses and missed this opportunity. However, he set aside everything else to welcome the presence of God. Secondly, God blessed him and his family because He was welcomed there.
Friends, big things happen when we welcome the presence of Christ into our homes. We need the manifest presence of Christ. We need revival now. Let’s pray for Christ to revive every member of our home.
