Revival Brings Repentance
Revival Brings Repentance
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” Matthew 3:2, 4:17
Both John the Baptist and Jesus began their ministries with these words. Their words and preaching definitely brought revival to people. One of the signs of revival taking place is repentance. When we have an encounter with Jesus and his righteousness, we recognize our own sinfulness and want to be cleansed. We are willing to leave behind the things that have held us back from living in the fullness of the Spirit.
David felt the weight of sinfulness when he committed adultery and murder. He said in Psalm 51 “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight.” He repented when he encountered the truth of what he had done and his unrighteousness. He went on to regularly ask the Lord to “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” (Psalm 139:23-24)
Lord Jesus, today I come before you asking you to search me and know my heart. Identify any unrighteous thoughts or actions I have had. Lead me in your way today. Fill me with your Spirit and help me to bear the fruit of the Spirit throughout this day.
